KD VI/6 and KD VI/8 trench sheets planned public investment in our infrastructure remains a bright spot, offering the potential to stimulate the economy and create good jobs. The Contractor shall complete a written Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for work to be performed, outlining the equipment to be used, the identified hazards that may exist or be created and what procedures or KD VI/6 trench sheet will be used to eliminate or reduce those hazards. Horizontal movements resulting from outward rotation of the wall or resulting from the KD6/8 development of internal equilibrium between the loads applied to the wall and the internal structure of the wall must be limited to prevent overstress of the structural wall facing and to prevent the wall face batter from becoming negative.

KD 6/6 and KD 6/8 steel trench sheet is good news for an industry that has lost more than 23,500 jobs in Los Angeles County since 2008 due to both the housing and financial crises. Completed JHAs are to be reviewed with the workforce and shall contain their KD VI/6 signatures as an acknowledgement. In general, if vertical deformations are properly controlled, horizontal deformations will likely be within acceptable limits.

The Contractor shall use the trench sheeting and sheet piles KDVI/6 and KDVI/8 provided in this Manual. The Contractor shall submit the names of employees trained in CPR and First Aid to the Engineer. Port officials are planning to invest $3.7 billion on a capital improvement program expected to create an estimated KDVI/8 construction jobs over the next ten years, according to a LAANE review of proposed KD VI/8 projects. Contractors shall provide appropriate first aid/CPR supplies for their employees and personnel trained to administer first aid/CPR as KD6/6 required. For MSE walls with extensible reinforcements, reinforcement serviceability criteria, the wall face batter, and the facing KD 6/6 type selected (i.e. the flexibility of the facing) will influence the horizontal deformation criteria required.

A key target for trench sheet KD6/6 and KD6/8 is the Port of Los Angeles, the busiest port in the United States and one of the primary economic engines of Southern California. For gravity and semi-gravity walls, lateral movement results from a combination of differential vertical settlement between the KDVI/6 sheet pile and the toe of the wall and the rotation necessary to develop active earth pressure conditions. The Port’s capital investment plan represents an opportunity for communities that have been hit hard by the recession.

It also represents a KD 8/8 potential opportunity for residents living directly adjacent to the Port who have not benefited economically from the Port’s rapid growth over the past 15 years, but have, nonetheless, suffered the environmental consequences of it. KD 6/6 and KD 6/8 tench sheets shall be estimated using conventional settlement computational methods. It is the responsibility of the Contractor to ensure subcontractors and sub-tiered contractors are completing written JHAs.
