Tie-rod anchorage represents the most economical way of anchoring sheet piles.
Normally, forces are diverted to the anchor plates. In order to install concrete anchor plates, it is necessary to excavate the concrete plate up to its bottom edge. If, however, sheet pile plates or continuous anchor walls, made from sheet piles, are to be used, it is sufficient to excavate up to anchor level.
In general, tie-rod anchors are installed horizontally or only slightly slanted, as major earthmoving would otherwise become necessary for the connection to the anchor body due to the low position of the anchor wall.
The necessary length of the tie-rod anchors results from the low skidding joint. The depth of the anchor wall is determined by testing the soil’s break safety in front of such wall.
