When trench sheet is necessary for Standard Lap and FKD 400/6 to penetrate a sheet pile wall, a sleeve must be provided to permit relative motion at the crossing. General comments - A-30 has a pot life of approximately 2 hours once mixed. One gallon will cover about 100 -110 of interlock. The fixing Standard Lap plate may be designed as a beam simply supported at two points (the longitudinal webs of the wale) and bearing a single load, Rb, in the center. Have sufficient amount of interlock prepared to accept the mixed A-30. Sheet pile must be in position and leveled prior to mixing.

Trench sheets are cut and reconnected on either side of the ER 750/8 sleeve. Sheet pile must remain in level position until A-30 cures (about 8-12 hours or longer depending on temperature). The wales are field bolted at joints known as fish plates or splices. It is preferable to FKD 400/6 trench sheet splice both channels at the same point and place the joint at a recess in the FKD400/6 trench sheeting double piling element. The sleeve is then packed with a plastic sealant and covered with a water tight KKD 600/6 rubber boot. If conditions permit, an alternative method of passing a trench sheeting utility line through the sheet pile can be accomplished without cutting. MATERIALS ON HAND LIST: Plastic buckets approximately 5 gallon size for mixing - Measuring KKD 600/8 bucket marked at 7.5 quarts (1/2 of the resin) It is preferable to splice both channels at the same point and place the joint at a recess in the double piling element. Splices ER750/8 should be designed for the transmission of the bending moment. This method consists of laterally trench sheets displacing the utility line, driving the KKD600/6 sheet piling, notching the sheet piling, and installing the sleeve in halves.

Trench sheeting foam or similar to KKD 600/6 or KKD 600/8 seal ends of piles Suitable gloves, clothes and equipment Carpenters level for checking level of pile. Periodic Inspections Structures should be inspected periodically to ensure structural integrity and to identify maintenance needs. The design of KKD600/8 tie rods and wales is illustrated in Problem No. 4a. The stability of trench sheets anchored sheet pile bulkhead depends mainly on the stability of the anchor device to which the wall is fastened. Measuring container marked at 0.5 quarts (1/2 of the hardener) Drill and mixing paddle ER 750/8 Disposable containers for pouring A-30 into interlock (water cans, coffee cans or similar) Methods of inspection usually include visual inspection, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic inspection, radiography, and in some trench sheet cases nondestructive testing. The reaction of the tie rods may be carried by any one of the types of anchorages.

Typically Standard or FKD400/6 sheet pile structures are visually inspected, relying heavily on the inspector’s experience and knowledge. Location of Anchorage - In order for an anchorage system to be effective it must be located outside the potential active failure zone developed behind a tench sheeting wall. If coated FKD 400/6 with oil, use torch to burn off oil or wipe with solvent. Ultrasonic measurements have been used to determine the remaining thickness of steel sheet piling. Its capacity is also impaired if it is FKD400/6 located in unstable ground or if the active failure zone prevents the development of full passive resistance of the system. Information concerning frequency and manner of conducting periodic inspections is trench sheets contained in ER 1110-2-100.

IMPORTANT: KKD 600/6 Interlocks MUST be clean dry and oil free. Use wire brush (hand or electric drill) to remove any loose rust or debris. Use high pressure air to blow grit and debris from the interlock.

Timbers showing evidence of decay or steel piling significantly weakened by corrosion may require replacement. Level KKD600/6 parallel H-Beams placed approximately 20 feet apart. Place sheet piles on level H-Beams and check level of KKD600/8 sheet pile. Adjust level if necessary. Concrete capping KKD 600/8 should be inspected for cracking and sealed as needed to prevent intrusion of foreign materials. KKD600/6 and KKD600/8 and ER750/8 should be monitored and corrected if the stability of a vertical sheet pile wall is affected. Several installations trench sheet that will not provide the full anchorage capacity required because of failure to recognize the above ER 750/8 considerations. Structures that have sustained major damage from storms or have deteriorated to a point at which normal maintenance is impractical may require total rehabilitation. At this time consideration should ER750/8 be given to alternative types of structures, such as replacing timber with steel.
