One cost-effective protection against corrosion is simple to increase the calculated diameter by 2-5 mm. This normally gives the required design life when steel tie rods are located underground. On the coast(in tidal areas) or in aggressive soils, when extra protection against corrosion is required, there are five further options:
- • Hot-dip galvanizing
- • Hot-dip galvanizing with additional protective coating
- • Complete coating system(various manufacturers)-based on bitumen(tar-epoxy)-based on plastics
- • Hot-shrunk sleeve systems
- • Wrapping
For these complex systems we will gladly advise in accordance with your requirements. We cooperate closely with various specialised subcontractors and can offer you any coating desired. Part of the work can also be done after installation.
The threads of hot-dip galvanized steel tie rods can be slightly undercut so that part of the galvanizing coat remains on the threaded ends after re-cutting. Unavoidable defects must be cold-reworked, if necessary.
Threads must be protected very carefully before sand- blasting and cleaned intensively afterwards!
