Sheet Piling for Seawalls

Sheet piling is a long lasting material to use when building seawalls and marine retaining walls. The eco-friendly sheet pile panels do not rust or rot. There are several different sheet piling brands, profiles and color options.

How does sheet pile compare to wood when used as a seawall or marine retaining wall?

Wood is a cost effective material for building seawalls. Water and excessive moisture can cause wood panels to rot. Depending on the climate in your area of Louisiana, a wood seawall may only last for a few years. Additionally, in salt water or brackish areas organisms in the water called Marine Borers can compromise wood structures like their land-living cousins termites. Sheet piling on the other hand, has a higher initial material cost but can last decades. Most sheet pile manufactures offer a warrantee on their product. Sheet pile panels will not rust, rot or become a meal for salt water organisms. Consider the cost and time of installing a seawall or your property. The extra investment in sheet piling may be worth the longevity and ease of care that a vinyl seawall provides.
